Hi all, i'm contributing a couple of pieces to a group exhibition next week, the other artists I'm exhibiting with are a great bunch of people, there are sculptors, painters, photographers, and a textile artist, it should be a really interesting show, so if you're interested, feel free to pop along.

for those of you that are in another country, or outside of Auckland, i'll be uploading images on opening night (or perhaps the day after)

:)

firefox-centric technical update on my website today, fixed an issue that prevented the scripts from functioning in mozilla based browsers (making the page unviewable), also fixed some css layout issues in mozilla.

so now all my swizzy gallery scripts should work across browsers. yay!

full moon tonight

put the finishing touches on el painto in the weekend ... they're never really finishing touches are they? there's definitely more that could be done, but, set myself a deadline and i'm gonna stick to it. gotta let go at some point. one month as of yesterday till it has to be hung, so any more work on it would be cutting too close to crunch time ... as it stands i'm going to have to wait several months before i can varnish it!

resuming work this weekend on a piece guilty of crawling into my head, got nerd related things to worry about before then though, so fresh start saturday!

while i type i have a magnificent view of the full moon through my bedroom window. that's something to love about this flat, whenever there's a full moon it's sitting there plain as a magic silver night orb from the vantage point of my computer. at night i sleep bathed in moonlight, and in the morning i wake up to the sun streaming through the windows. divine inspiration. gotta stick myself tonight so i will do so with the moon over my shoulder whilst viewing sonatine.

what a dull entry!! oh, except for THIS

what, just a detail?! apologies for the light! more at a later date :)

i have been making good progress on my painting

still got more to do, personal deadline is looming, i have 2 more weekends and a week in between to work on it, i'd like to have it finished on the 12th of this month, so i will likely be very quiet over the next couple of weeks. when the painting part is done i need to wait for it to dry so i can apply some varnish and get it looking shiny.

my walls are covered in paintings i haven't yet got around to finishing so i shall also have other projects to work on once it's done, the trick there is to keep it going, it's difficult to get the energy to work on them as frequently as i feel i should simply because of the old full time job thing, but i've decided to stop making excuses for myself and just do it. wild mood swings permitting of course.

i have also set myself a list of things to accomplish in the coming months, written down and placed somewhere i'm likely to see them, i guess the idea here is simply if it's not out of sight it won't be out of mind. perhaps that's why i get so scatterbrained when my room's a tip.

watched land of the dead this evening, it was pretty captivating. reminded me that i used to really enjoy horror. it seems that old zombies can learn new tricks. brilliant. constantine the other night didn't really hit the same nerve, it was ok but it was totally cheese.

recent $7 purchases i still need to get round to watching are:

blood brothers
dragon warrior
blood of a hero
city hunter - seen it, thought it was worth getting.
britannia hospital - low priority as i have already owned a copy on VHS for 10 years or so, just getting with the times.

some other films i've watched/purchased/rewatched so far this year, in no particular order:

cinema:
capote - damn good i say. what an unfortunate tragic tale.
jarhead - the loose narrative was pretty refreshing. i guess this is chris cooper month.
the jacket - figured out the ending 1/3 of the way in. ho hum, enjoyable, but i enjoy lots of crap.
walk the line - could have been much much better.
king kong - hmm ... well yes.
broken flowers - jim jarmusch is excellent
plus some others that don't immediately spring to mind

dvd:
breaking news - totally awesome hk gangster flick
versus - average but fun ... zombie yakuza!!
infernal affairs - another johnny to film, brilliant
hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy - you can only read the books so many times right?
a simple plan - sam raimi. need i say more?
the man who wasn't there - joel and ethan coen. need i say more?
the twins effect - pretty good, nice cameo from jackie
zatoichi - takeshi shines, an experiment in blood. i love the soundtrack a lot. feels like ghost dog ... for real!
secret kick of death - yay rare hk prints, a wong fei hung film *without* jet or jackie!
secrets of the dragon - this was really quite good despite the poor quality print. i love forgotten classics.
ancient art of monkey kung fu - hilarious
again with the more not springing to mind thing.
